Choosing The Right Website Design Program - Explained

You have chosen to get a website and now is the time to choose if you are going to write the website your self or use A website writing program to do it for you or just jump off and have a seasoned website designer / ranker, write it for you. It is actually possible to write a website using note pad, Microsoft Excel or even Microsoft Word that came with your computer.

After deciding what to do about writing your website with any program, it is still always a great idea to call around your area and speak with local website design entities and get their opinion as to what type of website you may be building and what they may be able to do for you.

Website Design Programs

Here are a few website design program facts you should know before hiring anyone to write a website for you and what you should look for..

  • Note Pad - If you know HTML (Which is the primary basis of all web design), you could essentially write each page by using the free program included with most windows "NOTE PAD". If you do use Note Pad, be sure to name all of your text file .html or .htm and not .txt. and also change the SAVE TYPE AS - to ALL FILES then change the encoding to UTF-8. Now save your file into a folder and compile all files there until the website has been completed.

Once you are done with all the pages that you have created, they all should be put into one folder and then appropriately named as your website name. When this process is complete, you will have to have some means of uploading this information to the web host. A third party FTP Client (Which there are many out there for free), is commonly used.

  • Microsoft Excel - Microsoft excel is an awesome program in our eyes and offers many ways to create data bases. Did you know, you could use the tables in Microsoft excel to actually create a website. It is based off the HTML principals and works rather well. The only hold back would be the level of the users knowledge about Excel and Html, one could alwasy save the document AS A WEB PAGE and not an EXCEL FILE. The primary source of uploading would still be the same third party software we suggested above in (uploading Programs)

  • Microsoft Word - Funny thing, few would have ever thought that Microsoft Word could be used as a Website Creation Tool that comes free with most windows. You could actually build files with pictures and also use the Alternative Text to display your Hover Over messages about your picture. You are able to save each page and if you create a folder with your website pages, you could actually link from page to page and have a valid website built out of Microsoft Word with some of the goodies that webmaster use. For Free.... (Tip) if you are using this method and write your page in MS WORD - when you click File and Save - Change the SAVE AS TYPE - to webpage *.htm or *html.

  • Microsoft Front Page - This is one of the easiest website building programs on the market "In our opinion". Just about any program you choose to use to build your website will shell invalid website code, Front Page seems to be the easiest to learn. It has tutorials and this in text that an average person can actually understand. (A Rare Find)
